The vibrant festival of Tihar was celebrated with great enthusiasm and creativity at Islington College on 15th October 2025 through the much-awaited Islington Tihar Fest. The event brought together students, faculty members, and staff in a colorful celebration that reflected the beauty of Nepali tradition and the spirit of togetherness that defines the festival of lights.

A Festive Ambience Around Campus

The festive decorations turned the campus into a wonderland , with rows of burning diyos, flower garlands, rangolis of different colors, and lights sparkling all around. The whole Tihar atmosphere of warmth and joy was beautifully reflected in the lively surroundings. People had easy fun, music, and taste of traditional food all at once, and so, the day was very special for guests.

Mini Events Showcasing Talent and Tradition

Mini events that were both creative and culturally oriented highlighted the day and among them, the Rangoli Competition was the most preferred by the audience. The students turned the courtyard into a colorful canvas where they showed off their intricate designs which stood for prosperity, harmony, and artistic imagination. Each rangoli had its own story, and through it, diversity and teamwork were highlighted.

The thrill did not stop there; rather, it continued with the Deusi Bhailo performances which indeed recreated the traditional rhythm and joy of Tihar. The students adorned in culture sang and danced in their very energetic manner, thus recreating the familiar and very heart-warming scenes seen across Nepali homes during the festival. The performances with their liveliness made the campus a very positive place, thus, everyone was connected through music and culture.

Culinary Fun and Flavors of Tihar

The events of Selroti Making and Bhogate Sadne added an extra dimension of flavor to the festival. Contestants through these competitions had an opportunity to reveal their kitchen talents and, at the same time, participate in the making of the essence of festive food, which is homemade.

In the Selroti Making Competition, the finalists were those who could make perfectly shaped and carefully fried selrotis, as each one was a reflection of skill and the love for tradition in equal measure. The sizzling sound and the sweet smell of selroti were reminders of the very festive occasions that many had experienced in the past.

On the other hand, the Bhogate Sadne contest was not only a contest but also a merry event where the teams made up the mixtures of bhogate (pomelo) that were sour and colored, with the combination of sweet, sour, and spicy flavors that were the playful side of Tihar gatherings.

A Celebration of Unity and Joy

Islington Tihar Fest , despite being a mere part of the fun and celebrations, was a strong reminder of the values of Tihar namely, light, love, respect, and unity. The event invited students from different backgrounds to unite and to show the Islington community how harmonious the cultures are. It was not a mere festival, but a collective experience that deepened the bonds of friendship and produced memories for a lifetime.

Looking Back with Pride

As the lights from the diyos glowed brighter at night, you could really see the warmth, hope, and happiness of Tihar all over college.

Islington Tihar Fest 2025 was much more than an event. The event brought everyone together to celebrate Tihar Fest and displayed the artistic and cultural talents of Islington students. In addition to encouraging academic progress, this event demonstrated the college's dedication to creating a culturally diverse community.

The laughter, the colorful rangolis, and the smell of selroti will remind us of this amazing Tihar Fest, which spread joy and togetherness all through Islington College.
