The highly anticipated Islington College International Exposure Trip to Thailand 2024 became a milestone event, offering an inspiring fusion of academic learning and real-world skill-building. Engaging workshops and entrepreneurial challenges provided ample chances for learning, growth, and success.
Workshop Insights
The journey began with the Youth Perspectives Through Human-Centered Design Workshop. Led by DesignThinkers Academy Founder Daryl Lim and Co-founder Rosemary Phan, participants explored the fundamentals of empathy-focused design, gaining a deep understanding of their audience’s needs and goals.
What made this workshop unique was the smooth blending of theory and practice. Students not only acquired knowledge about empathy but also put it into practice. By participating in interactive tasks, students were prompted to engage in critical thinking, teamwork, and generate innovative answers. From engaging in user research to creating new ideas through prototyping, they acquired practical knowledge in the design process. The facilitators’ skilful guidance created a supportive yet stimulating atmosphere, motivating participants to explore new ideas and be creative.
Presenting business ideas at Thammasat University
During the International Exposure Trip to Thailand, students showcased their entrepreneurial abilities at Thammasat University, one of the country’s oldest and most prestigious institution, founded in 1934. With a rich history rooted in democratic values and a reputation for academic excellence, Thammasat has grown into one of Thailand's largest universities, serving over 30,000 students across various disciplines.
Grouped separately, the students devised innovative business ideas to tackle real-world issues. They conducted market research, identified target demographics, and developed comprehensive business strategies. Drawing on the university's vibrant academic environment and global outlook, the students refined their ideas and prepared persuasive presentations for a panel of industry professionals.
The experience at Thammasat University not only challenged the students to think critically and creatively but also provided them with a platform to engage with one of Asia’s leading academic institutions, known for its commitment to fostering leadership, innovation, and societal impact.
The occasion was not just a competition, but also so much more. It provided students with an opportunity to improve their abilities in Public Speaking, Presentation, and Critical Thinking. By exchanging ideas with a group of professionals, they gained the ability to communicate their vision effectively, work on constructive criticism, and adjust to new situations.
QuantumLeap Leaders Programme
The QuantumLeap Leaders Programme, created to develop future-ready leaders, had a notable impact along the way. In interactive sessions, students got to learn leadership principles, decision-making strategies, and team dynamics. The programme provided a chance for people to gain real leadership skills, ensuring that they would acquire the abilities to effectively inspire and guide others.
Beyond an experience
The trip to Thailand wasn't just educational; it also celebrated culture, collaboration, and individual development. Students not only attended workshops and university sessions, but also fully engaged in Thailand's lively culture, forming enduring memories and friendships that will last forever.
