On 3rd and 4th July 2025, Islington College buzzed with energy as students took the stage for this year’s Final Year Project (FYP) and Internet of Things (IoT) Showcase, two of the most anticipated academic events in our calendar.

The Final Year Project is a capstone module for our final-year students, providing them with the opportunity to integrate all they have learned throughout their degree into a single, substantial piece of work. Over several months, students research, design, and develop solutions to real-world problems from advanced software applications to innovative data-driven systems and then present their completed projects to faculty, peers, and guests. The showcase offered a glimpse into their creativity, technical skills, and professional readiness.

The IoT Showcase, on the other hand, featured projects from our second-year students. As part of their coursework, these students explored how connected devices can improve everyday life. From smart home systems to health-monitoring devices and automated environmental controls, the prototypes demonstrated how IoT technology can bridge the gap between the digital and physical worlds.

Across both days, classrooms and labs were filled with interactive demos, lively discussions, and constructive feedback from faculty members, alumni, and industry professionals. The event wasn’t just about presenting finished work; it was about sharing ideas, learning from others, and building confidence in communicating technical concepts to different audiences.
The FYP & IoT Showcase has once again reinforced Islington College’s commitment to hands-on,project-based learning, preparing students not just for graduation, but for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in the tech industry.
