Nepal's first Educational Cybersecurity Research Centre is dedicated to advancing knowledge in the field of cybersecurity, with a specific focus on threat intelligence, emerging cybersecurity research, and digital forensics.

As the digital landscape continues to evolve, the importance of cybersecurity has become paramount. The Cybersecurity Research Hub at Islington College Kathmandu aims to address the growing need for skilled professionals in the field by providing a platform for research, education, and collaboration with academics and industry professionals.

Key Objectives of the Research Hub:

Research Centre

The hub will actively engage in research to identify, analyse, and understand cybersecurity threats. Through collaborations with industry experts and organisations, it will contribute to the development of threat intelligence strategies that can enhance the overall security posture of individuals and businesses.

Security Operations Centre

The hub will be at the forefront of exploring emerging trends and technologies in the cybersecurity domain. Research conducted here by academic staff, students and alumni will contribute to the development of innovative solutions and best practices to address the dynamic challenges of the digital era.

Digital Forensics Lab

Recognising the critical role of digital forensics in investigating cyber incidents, the centre will focus on training and research in this specialised field. This includes developing expertise in the collection, analysis, and preservation of digital evidence for legal and investigative purposes.

The establishment of the Cybersecurity Research Hub aligns with Islington College Kathmandu's commitment to producing industry-ready graduates and fostering a culture of innovation. It not only serves as a hub for academic research but also as a bridge between academia and industry, promoting collaboration and knowledge exchange.

This course is designed around the latest cyber security trends and networking principles. The curriculum equips you to be a professional in the area of telecommunication and computer networking emphasising on network security. The CISCO based curriculum emphasizes the fundamentals of networking, principles of switching routing and wireless essentials, and furthermore understanding enterprise level security systems. The cloud computing course uses the latest AWS platform. To build a strong foundation in the field of cyber security you will be introduced to networks , fundamentals of cyber security, ethical hacking and also the associated professional issues, ethics and computer law.

The module develops an understanding of project management issues in the context of software development – including the consideration of a standard method, software development frameworks, financial evaluation, planning, monitoring, control and team management – together with the ability to apply these as appropriate to a business case study.

The module aims to provide students with the opportunity to gain work experience and explore career opportunities. It focuses on work related projects and helps to enhance their learning experience by implementing their academic skills to tackle real life problems in workplace.

Entry Requirement

Academic Level

NEB +2 overall aggregate of 2.2 CGPA (55%) or above with each subject (theory and practical) grade D or above, and SEE Mathematics score of C+ (55%) or above

For A-Levels, a minimum of 3.5 credits and at least a grade of D and above

English Proficiency

English NEB XII Marks > 60% or 2.4 GPA

Applicants not meeting the aforementioned criteria for english can demonstrate their English proficiency with the following internationally recognised English Tests:

For Level 4 or Year 1 BIT

Pass in General Paper or English Language or IELTS 6 or PTE 57.
